6th XI runners-up in the AFA Senior Novets Cup

Played at Old Finchleains, the 1-6 scoreline perhaps wasn't a fair reflection of the game as a whole, albeit Carshalton were definitely the better side on the day.

Carshalton opened the scoring after just 4 minutes with a speculative volley from 25 yards out. Winchmore replied quickly after 7 minutes with their only goal of the game, a shot by Simon Rhodes being deflected into the net.

Carshalton took the lead again on 18 minutes, and the rest of the first half was a fairly even affair with both sides having chances not taken.

Winchmore came onto the field for the second half with high hopes of eliminating the one goal deficit but those hopes were wiped out in less than a minute, when they were caught cold and Carshalton scored for 3-1.

Although The Hill had one or two chances as the half went on, Carshalton dominated the play and scored three more goals in the final quarter of an hour.

Winchmore sixes can be proud of reaching the final of two competitions this season, with success in one of them, and only falling at the last hurdle to a strong 3rd XI from across the river.

Congratulations to Carshalton on a great win !
